Inspired by the writings of Lao Zi, the philosopher and sinologist François Jullien and the French academician, writer, poet and calligrapher François Cheng, French contemporary composer THIERRY PÉCOU presents a unique concert that pays homage to ancient China through multiple artistic expressions: chamber music, with the flute, clarinet, viola de gamba and piano, combined with the ancient Chinese musical instrument the guqin; soprano voice, multimedia video and electronic sound track.

 

This remarkable concert is composed by Thierry Pécou in collaboration with Master Chen Leiji, who had the distinction of being selected as the guqin player at the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics 2008. Ensemble Variances brings together a group of outstanding musicians and video artists who present a harmonious, innovative audio and visual blend of Western and Chinese cultures. This concert will premiere at Shanghai World Expo 2010.
